This pewter beer mug, of quart capacity, is believed by his descendants to have belonged to Captain Jacky Guard. 'A law unto himself in a lawless land,' Guard was a whaler and trader who established a whaling station at Kakapo Bay in the early 1830s (Grady, 29).
