Willard Home (named after Frances Willard, the first American woman to be publicly recognised for her work with women and children in the USA) was established in Palmerston North 1920, in a house administered by the Women's Christian Temperance Union. In 1928 the house was enlarged, with additions in brick (as in the photograph). In 1961 the property was transferred to the Presbyterian Social Service Association for use as a home for the elderly. It was again enlarged and called Willard House...
