Description

Four New Zealand politicians, including Frederick Whittaker, are stalking a bird who represents Maori. Context - The idea appears to be whether enticing the bird with salt (ie putting salt on the bird's tail) is preferable to shooting it. In the 1870s and 1880s the Parihaka settlement, then reputed to be the largest Maori village in New Zealand, became the centre of a major campaign of non-violent resistance to European occupation of confiscated land in the area.
