Shows a portrait of a smiling Maori youth in a woven cloak with taniko border. He is wearing a collared shirt, trousers and shoes beneath the cloak. Shows James Pomare, grandson of Ngati Mutungu chief Wiremu Piti Pomare. Angas took this youth 'aged about 13 years' with him on his return from New Zealand to Sydney towards the end of November 1844.
