The card shows a steamship inside a life-belt, with a man's and woman's hands clasped above it. The life-belt is flanked by the Union Jack and the Royal flag with rampant lions, and the roses and thistles of England and Scotland. The verse underneath reads: "Across the sea, across the land, I fain would clasp your friendly hand, / But since between us rolls the sea, I send a greeting card to thee.
