("The Mangatangi Dam is providing electricity following the installation of a hydro generator. The valve, which controlled water flowing to the Ardmore Filter Station, has been replaced by a hydro generator, which is producing electricity for Counties Power. Finance Minister, Bill Birch, who pushed the button to start the turbine, says the hydro generator project is one of those rare examples where all parties end up winning. 'Watercare has overcome a problem that was causing excessive heat and noise at the bottom of the valve tower and Counties Power is receiving additional electricity at a favourable cost,' he said ...", Papakura Courier, 8 March 1995, p. 14.)
