This is the best description of this item that we could find:

Noah's Ark toys were a very popular early Victorian toy that was traditionally played with on Sundays when physical activities like jumping, climbing trees and whistling were discouraged (Armstrong, P. & Jackson, D. (1990). Toys of Early New Zealand). New Zealand's first missionaries used a Noah's Ark toy to explain the biblical tale to Maori. This Noah's Ark was brought to New Zealand by the Crowther family who were early New Zealand settlers in the Moores Valley, Wainuiomata. Noah's Ark toys continue to be a favourite among children today.
