Description

The Captain Cook memorial on Kaiti Hill, Gisborne, looking west over Poverty Bay. Erected on Kaiti Hill in 1969 to commemorate the bicentenary of Cook's visit, the bronze casting of a marble statue imported from Italy is not a likeness of Cook. It was removed in 2019 and placed in storage at Tairāwhiti Museum.
