Description

Cheering crowds in Main Street, Upper Hutt, during the tour of New Zealand by Queen Elizabeth II and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, 1953-1954. The photograph shows the royal couple in a Daimler car passing the Council Chambers. Also included in the image is the old Gospel Hall, which was built in 1913. By mid-1955 a new Gospel Hall was in use; the old building had burnt down. The royal family used Daimlers exclusively for many years.
