Description

Summit - at top of Rimutaka Incline. We-class tank locomotive No.198 with 4-6-4 wheel arrangement. This locomotive was rebuilt in 1902 from a 4-8-0 tender locomotive (B-198) supplied in 1899 by Sharp Stewart and Coy of Glasgow, Scotland. As illustrated it was not equipped with a second sand dome immediately ahead of the cab as the only reverse running required was downhill.
