Country shows were initially established to show off prize animals and encourage the breeding of better stock. But by the early 20th century shows involved everyone in the rural community. There were competitions for shearers and axemen, show-jumping and dog trials. Women competed in the home produce section to win prizes for their flower arrangements, baking, jams and preserves. This display features women’s entries in a 1908 show.
