New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage Te Manatu Taonga
Mokoia pā in Mauinaina (present-day Panmure) belonged to Ngāti Pāoa. In 1821 Ngāpuhi besieged the pā and up to 1,000 Ngāti Pāoa were killed.
