Most rest-home staff are women, and while they include registered nurses and occupational therapists, the majority have no formal training. These women worked at the Caughey Preston rest home in Auckland, which closed in 2017. Two-thirds of Caughey Preston staff were new immigrants, and more than half were aged over 50. Management claimed that respect for diversity was part of the special character of the home.
