Trish McKelvey was a fine right-hand top-order batsman from Wellington who captained New Zealand from 1966 to 1982. In February 1969 at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, she became the first New Zealand women’s test centurion when she made 155 not out against England. In January 1972 she made 117 not out in New Zealand’s second innings against South Africa in Cape Town. When she retired McKelvey coached, selected and managed New Zealand teams.
