On 24 June 1954, the first major colour studio film shot in New Zealand premiered at the Majestic Theatre in Wellington. 'The Seekers' (released in the United States as 'Land of Fury') was adapted from a novel by New Zealander John Guthrie (real name John Brodie), and portrays New Zealand during the 1820s.
