Description

Shows the Russian cruiser 'Askold', probably in Mudros (Moudros) Harbour, Lemnos (Limnos) Island before the Gallipoli Campaign. At right is a British pre-dreadnought battleship. At left, a tug tows a line of four lifeboats, practicing for the Gallipoli landing. The 'Askold' was built for the Russian Navy in a German shipyard and launched in 1900. She served in the Russo-Japanese War and on the Allied side in World War One. She was a bombardment ship for the Gallipoli Campaign
