The Kaimanawa Wild Horses are mustered biannually to maintain a herd size of 300 which strikes a balance between the intrinsic and heritage values of the wild horses to New Zealanders, and conservation values of unique plants and ecological habitats. A team of skilled helicopter pilots skilfully fly to bring the wild horses in quietly to the yards.
