F.231 Black, Hawthorn & Co, Gateshead, 1873. Note "G" class cab and tanks. Originally bought by an Otago railway and named 'Dandie Dinmont', it became New Zealand Railways F34; it was later renumbered F.231 and named 'Ivanhoe'. It was the only Black, Hawthorne F-class loco in New Zealand, and retired in November 1931. This image is taken from a photograph album created by William W.
