Description

I saw several tussock butterflies flying near Cooper's Knob, the highest point on the Christchurch Port Hills. I managed to get a photograph of the second one I saw (they don't land often). To my knowledge, this is the first reliable recent record of this species from the Port Hills. This high elevation site is notable for its scattered Chionochloa rigida, a possible host plant for tussock butterfly caterpillars.
