Harvesting onions on Pukekohe Hill, 1956. (Plate no. XVIII in Donald Hunt's MA thesis, 'Market Gardening in Metropolitan Auckland', University of New Zealand, 1956. Captioned: "Harvesting Immature Onions: Immature onions are pulled and the green tops cut off by hand. Such early onions are harvested in order to take advantage of the high spring prices.
