Description

Piha Tramway engine A196 is off the rails and lying on its side, with a group of men working to right it and a man and woman watching. Historical note: A subsidence in the edge of the track tipped the engine over. Wooden connecting rods were used between the engine and trucks so that if one or the other was derailed the connecting rod would shatter and so lessen the chance of the others being dragged off the track.
