Née Page. Known as Annie Barry. Born in Opunake. She became New Zealand's first female firefighter in 1981 at 29 years old. Her inital application was declined, so she took a case to the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Human Rights Commission and to members of Parliament before being accepted. Awarded a QSM Commemorative Medal in 1990 for services to women
