In this paper, archaeological sites in the Auckland area are reviewed. The sites, which vary greatly in size and nature, include volcanic cones, fortified sites, unfortified settlements and coastal middens, dating between approximately A.D. 1300 and 1800. Chronological changes in material culture and subsistence are defined.
