Description

The S.S. Niwaru at Auckland, one of the Tyser Line of steamers trading between London and New Zealand. As she was entering the harbour at Napier on 19 July she struck a sunken rock, and she had to be beached to ascertain the extent of the damage. The vessel returned to Auckland on 10 August 1903, in order to go into dock for repairs. On the voyage from Napier the water was making fast, and the pumps had to be kept going continuously.
