This scrapbook, compiled by A.G. Bagnall, covers the Tangiwai Disaster which occurred on Christmas Eve, 1953. A volcanic lahar flooded the Whangaehu River at Tangiwai, 10 km west of Waiōuru, in the central North Island, New Zealand, derailing the train and killing 151 of the 285 people on board.
