Description

This is a Swiftsure vacuum washer. Commonly referred to as a posser or a dolly stick, it is a plunger which was used to mix washing when in a tub of soapy hot water. Kept vertical at all times, the user hauled the Swiftsure up and down. A tough job completed by one woman, it is presumed that ‘one would be ill-advised to get into an arm wrestle with a woman skilled in the art of twisting a 'Dolly-Washer’ '.
