Description

A metal gold pan that has a twine handle attached to one side. Gold pans like this one were used to pan for gold on the rich goldfields of Southland and Central Otago. Gold bearing gravel or sand would be placed in the pan and then agitated with water, since gold is heavier than the gravel or sand it would sink to the bottom of the pan while the water washed away the rest.
