Related items and other design changes

In the renewal spirit of Matariki, DigitalNZ released several design changes across digitalnz.org last week with the aim of making the collections and content even easier to use, and to increase clarity and consistency in some areas.

We have worked with designers from our vendor Boost on this and used user feedback to inform it — thanks Emma and Maryam! The tīma is very excited to present these changes and keen to hear any feedback!

New record page design

We have changed the layout of our record pages to try to group similar actions and types of metadata, and balance the importance of each section. There is a lot to fit in! The object metadata is now in a tabular format for easier scanning and there is a clearer pathway to the content partner website through use of a button. Some vertical space has been tightened up so more of the metadata is visible without scrolling.

The other exciting new addition to the page is ‘Related items’ — a selection of four similar items from DigitalNZ. We’d love to get your feedback on this tool and other changes.

Styling tweaks

There is now a more consistent look for headings, paragraph spacing and link styles across the site. These are relatively minor changes but should have a big impact on readability and visual cohesion. This has also included accessibility improvements on mobile devices by adjusting font sizes for smaller screens.

We've turned off comments here, but we'd still love to know your thoughts. Visit us on our Facebook Page @digitalnz or on Twitter @DigitalNZ to share any ideas or musings with the DigitalNZ team.
