This circular shaped kato alu (woven ceremonial basket) is made from the roots of the alu plant and tu'aniu (coconut midribs) and has not been dyed. A triangular decorative element is created by the open weave section along the brim. Kato aluKato alu are one of several types of baskets that were made in Tonga as early as the eighteenth century.
