This arts and crafts style jam jar was possibly designed by Archibald Knox, one of the most important designers employed by the London department store, Liberty Co. Significantly, the jar still retains its original glass base, which dominates its design. Liberty Co had much of its glass made by the renowned English firm of James Powell Sons, which had its glassworks in Whitefriars in London.
