Description

James and Mary Jane Harris (nee Mabey) constructed this house of heart totara and heart matai, milled from their property, in 1876. They occupied the house until their deaths, and it was then tenanted continuously until 1959. In 1981 Ivan, a great grandson of James Harris, and Judith Staite bought the house and moved it to a site half a kilometre down the road, where they restored it.
