dixon street flats question of families the use that is being made and will be made of the state flats in dixon street was explained by the prime minister mr fraser in the house of representatives yesterday afternoon in reply to an urgent question by mr c g e harker national waipawa who wanted to know why tenants with children were not being admitted to the flats the fiats were not yet ready for habitation said the prime minister the leader of the opposition mr holland there are people in occupation the prime minister said thatit had been necessary to find accommodation in wellington for women v3i6 had joined the services and they had been given temporary accommodation in the flats the housing construction department had recently acquired the property of the sir douglas mclean estate on the ten-ace where flats also being built as rapidly as possible were expected to be ready in about three months in the meantime cooking and dining facilities for the service women had been installed-there mr holland will the dixon street flats be available for families with say one child the prime minister said h ould not say at the moment it depended upon the size of the flats he was not at present familiar with the details ot the flats but he looked forward to seeing the flats occupied by returned soldiers and soldiers wives with one child even if the flats provided them with accommodation only for the time beine
