French Pass showing a red sky reflecting on the mountain range. A beacon can be seen above water level See also E-326-f-011-1, a view of the same spot on the same day taken from the opposite side of the pass. The beacon shown was a barrel on top of a 5.5 metre metal rod, cemented to the rock below water level. It was placed there by HMS Pandora in 1854 and replaced in 1881.
