Description

A seated Maori couple with a background of a carved whare. The man, To Ngaporutu has a moko and is wearing a greenstone earring and a flax leaf rain cloak. His wife, seated on his right, is in a woven flax korowai cloak and has an albatross feather ear adornment. She has a chin moko and crosses marked on her cheek and forehead. The pair were residents of the Waitomo area, with Rihe coming from the Wanganui area. Both were recent converts to Christianity
