Description

At the top of the page, a pressed flower, possibly a piece of broom, inscribed 'From the Filly', i.e. a gift from a woman. In the centre, a circular watercolour showing a Tongan scene. It is cut in spirals and has a cotton thread in its centre. On pulling the thread, the image rises, revealing another portrait of a Tongan woman, with exaggeratedly full lips, inscribed 'Take, oh take, those lips away'. The construction is probably the work of a friend of Speer's, Babbington by name, possibly ...
