No 34, an N class steam locomotive, 2-6-2 type at a railways workshop, probably Petone. Photograph taken by Albert Percy Godber before it was fitted with piston valves, which took place in 1905. Original print at Pa1-q-101 (Godber album vol 108, p 31) N class NZR 34, was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, went into service in November 1885, and was written off in 1933.
