Shows Sir George Grey, seated, Te Rangihaeata with outstretched arm, groups of Maori, house on hill on right, middle distance According to an account in the New Zealand Spectator and Cook's Strait Guardian of September 1851, this event took place on 13 September 1851, but was at Otaki, not Waikanae. The Library's title is taken from the matching lithograph in Oliver's folio of lithographs of New Zealand (and New Caledonia) Sketches in New Zealand (London, 1852). Oliver could have misrecorded...
