Description

Henry Tracey Coxwell (1819-1900), English balloonist, photographed ca 1862 by Negretti & Zambra of London. He is holding a miniature balloon. Coxwell, accompanied by James Glaisher (1809-1903), made a number of high altitude balloon flights between 1862 and 1866. These flights were funded by the British Association for the Advancement of Science, for the purpose of studying the upper atmosphere.
