Description

The Wellington Battalion of the New Zealand Infantry Brigade in close combat with Turkish forces on Chunuk Bair ridge, with the cliffs of Gallipoli and the Dardanelles Straits beyond them. Based on an oil (232 x 116 mm) held in Parliament, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the landing of Anzac troops at Gallipoli. On 8 August, the Anzac forces gained Chunuk Bair ridge, but by the morning of 10 August, a counter-attack by Turkish forces led by Mustafa Kemel, drove the Allies back. Work ...
