Father Owen Snedden and Father John Flanagan, both New Zealanders, chat with Generals Edward Puttick and Bernard Freyberg, and NZ Prime Minister Peter Fraser outside St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican, Rome. Both New Zealanders were studying in Rome at the outbreak of hostilities and have been compelled to remain there ever since.
