Carved pataka (food storehouse) at Maketu Pa, near Matata, Bay of Plenty. Photograph taken circa 1884 or 1885, by Alfred Henry Burton. Caption to original print reads: "Carved Pataka to keep the food being off the ground - to keep the rats away? No!
