Copy negative of a photograph of Major Ropata Wahawaha, who became a member of the Legislative Council in 1894. Original photographed by an unknown photographer about 1894. Ngati Porou leader, soldier, farmer, politician and assessor. Died at Gisborne on the 1st of July 1897. Given name was Rapata, but later often known as Ropata as this is how his name sounded when spoken by Scotsman Donald McLean.
