A full length portrait of Hiko in a fringed flax cloak, seated on the stern of a canoe at the water's edge, a mere in his right hand. The accompanying text reads: Hiko the son of Te Pehi Kupe (or Tupai Cupa, as he was formerly called when he visited England in 1826). Hiko is the highest chief in Cook's Strait, by descent.
