Cartes de visite are by J Botterill, "Portrait painter and photographer", 19 Collins Street East, Melbourne, Australia. The Masons were Quakers who arrived at Wellington on the New Zealand Company vessel "Olympus" in Apr 1841. They established a horticultural business, known as Mason's Gardens, at Taita.
