Steamship Pakeha photographed at Port Chalmers, by David Alexander De Maus. Inscriptions: Marginal notes on negative - top right - Pakeha Steamship Pakeha of 8115 tons, was built by Harland & Wolff of Belfast, for Shaw, Savill & Albion Co. Transport duties during 1914-1918 war, for the East African Campaign. Laid up in 1939, and acquired by the Admiralty for conversion into dummy Royal Sovereign Class battleship. In 1941 converted to merchant ship, and renamed Empire Pakeha. Repurchased by ...
