Description

Two soldiers, one standing, one on horseback, gazing in the direction of a large wooden-fenced fort on the right of the Mangapiko Stream, with the palisades of the opposing Maori pa just visible on the brow of a hill in the distance. There is a low bridge across the creek, with a road leading up the right bank towards the fort. Probably copied by Hamley from a drawing of his superior officer, E. A.
