Head of Te Pehi Kupe, paramount chief of the Ngati Toa tribe, copied from the engraving in The New Zealanders by G. L. Craik (1830) in its turn taken from a watercolour by John Sylvester Te Pehi Kupe visited England in 1826 and was painted in Liverpool by artist John Sylvester.
