Shows a view looking west over the Wairau Plain with the Tuamarina Stream winding across it. In the foreground is a fenced grave, that of the Pakeha participants of the 'Wairau Affray' of 17 June 1843. There is a range of hills in the distance. The Wairau Affray took place in Tuamarina, Wairau Valley, on 17 June 1843. The 22 European victims, including Captain Arthur Wakefield, were buried in a large grave in the area in which they fell.
