A frontal head and shoulders portrait of a young Maori woman, and a young Samoan woman. The Maori woman has moko and is wearing a fringed cloak. The Samoan woman is dressed in European clothing and wears a decorative neck band. The Samoan woman appears to be wearing a "Mother Hubbard" dress, a style introduced by missionaries, with the dress gathered onto a broad yoke.
