This object was previously called a 'Fetish cap'. This was the description given when the object was offered to the museum in 1924. However, fetish is a European term and has been used as a derogatory expression. 'Feather cap' is given as a placeholder title until further research can be conducted to determine the object's place of origin and the names and meanings ascribed to it by its source communities.
